Backstory:
Haruka, like many residents of Sendo, was affected by the Amanojaku attack seven years ago. Unlike many, however, and unbeknownst to most, Haruka was directly affected - she was at the scene of the crime.

For Haruka, it was a pleasant day, at least it started as such. A quiet day for a picnic, and the Shirokawa family were out. And then all chaos broke loose when these mysterious creatures from a different world, a different dimension broke through. People went mad, people had the life drain from them, buildings were destroyed. Haruka lost track of their parents first - she was told they'd been found crushed by debris - and eventually it was down to just her and her sister Kana.

One of those Amanojaku cornered her and her sister, and Haruka prepared to protect herself and her sister with whatever futile effort she could achieve. The creature struck Haruka. All she remembers after that is foggy.

As far as Haruka could remember, her sister - sweet, kind, made flower bracelets and loved animals and unicorns - found some odd jewel and transformed, a hail of silver knives descending down upon the creature, and Haruka wasn't strong enough to yell for her sister, to tell her about the debris that was about to fall upon her, just as her sister, bleeding from the mouth, turned to smile at her -

When Haruka awoke five days later in the hospital, it was to find out that her sister had died.

Growing up, Haruka never forgot that. A few other people had reported seeing her sister, but nobody could tell her if they'd seen her final moments. Haruka never forgave herself, never let it go. She had been the older sister - it was her job to protect the younger, not the other way around. It wasn't right. How could she fix what had happened?

And then, one day, representatives from the EUFON Tactical Sound Unit gave her that very opportunity.

She became partners with another person who'd lost someone in the disaster, Kazuma Nago. She became famous - the civilian cover she was running as a singer became renown as one of the three Queens of Music, the best young female singers of the era. She became the leader of her own unit of singers, Afternoon.

Haruka will never forget what her sister Kana did for her. For her - to make sure nobody else has to witness that kind of loss, that kind of pain - she wanted to fight the Amanojaku to their very last.
